About Auli Kuari Pass Trek

With a visit to popular pilgrim cities such as Rishikesh, Devprayag, Joshimath, and Haridwar, the Kuari pass trek, situated in Garhwal Himalaya is a 33 KM long journey. The trek is famous for letting you onlook India’s second-highest peak, Mount Nanda Devi.

The trek at an altitude of 12,516 ft. also offers you summit views of Dronagiri, Chitrakantha, Chaukhamba, and Tali top. The Interlude of meadows, beautiful forests blooming with rhododendron, and oak trees make your path all the more scenic. While on the trek, you can also admire the mesmerizing views of holy rivers such as Bhagirathi and Alakananda which makes the ascent even more exciting.

Day 1: Rishikesh to Joshimath (250 kms / 6-7 hrs drive) (Lunch and Dinner)

Morning pick up from Rishikesh. Transfer to Joshimath. On the way visit Devprayag & Rudraprayag. Check in to the hotel in Joshimath. Dinner and overnight stay at Joshimath.

Day 2: Joshimath to Auli (15 Kms drive) Auli to Gorson meadows (5 km trek) (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)

Post breakfast, drive from Joshimath to Auli and then trek to Gorson Bugyal. The trail to this spectacular Himalayan meadow passes through Deodar (cedar) tree forest. Gorson meadows will offer breathtakingly beautiful 360 degree Himalayan Panorama including Nanda Devi (2nd highest peak of Indian Himalayas), Barmal, Hathi-Ghodiparbat and others. Packed lunch on the trail, freshly cooked dinner and overnight stay at campsite.

Day 3: Gorson meadows to Khulara (via Tali) 8 km trek (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)

Post breakfast, trek from Gorson meadows to Khulara. The trail today passes through pristine Deodar Rhododendron and Oak forests and then a ridge takes you to Khulara. Enroute, cross a beautiful small lake at Tali surrounded with lush green pastures as grazing grounds. Packed lunch enroute. We set-up up our tents and enjoy the evening with camp fire and hot meals. Overnight at campsite.

Day 4: Khulara to Kuari Pass to Pangarchulla and back to Khulara (9 km trek) (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)

Post breakfast, trek from Khulara to Kuari Pass, climb Pangarchulla and back to Khulara. Full day to explore Lord Curzon Area. Kuari Pass is formed by two ridges bent in an arch shape. The expansive views of magnificent snow-clad Himalayan peaks and far-stretched alpine meadows open up with magnificent views of mighty Himalayan peaks – Nanda Devi, Kamet, Dronagiri, Kedarnath, Neelkanth and twin peaks of Hathi-Ghori Parvat. Packed lunch on the trail. Freshly cooked dinner and overnight stay at campsite.

Day 5: Khulara to Tapovan (10 kms trek) Tapovan to Joshimath (25 km drive ) (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)

Post breakfast, trek downhill from Khulara to Tapovan and drive to Joshimath At Tapovansee massive natural sulfur hot springs. The waters of this spring are said to have excellent medicinal properties. See village Lata and Reni (famous for Chipko movement) on drive back to Joshimath. Lunch enroute. In the evening, time permitting, visit Narsimha temple, ShankaracharyaMath ,Kalpavriksha and explore Joshimath market area.Dinner and overnight stay in Joshimath.

Day 6: Joshimath to Rishikesh (250 kms / 6-7 hrs drive) (Breakfast & Lunch)

Morning after breakfast visit Narsingh Temple and Shankaracharya Math in Joshimath. Transfer to Joshimath. Drop at Rishikesh.

How to Reach Auli Kuari Pass Trek

At first you have to reach Rishikesh, after that we will take care of your further travel plan.

Options to reach Rishikesh:

1. Take overnight train/bus to Rishikesh.

2. Take overnight train/bus to Haridwar and drive to Rishikesh (35 min drive with normal traffic).

3. Take the flight to Dehradun airport (Jolly Grant Airport) and drive to Rishikesh (20 km, 30 min), if coming by flight then come one day early.

1What about the weather conditions in the mountain region?

Weather in mountains is completely unpredictable and hence one must remain prepared for all of its kind. Usually, nights are cold in comparison to days and hence travelers are suggested to take their extra warm clothes with them. Also, it depends on seasons too.

2 Are mobile networks affected during the trek?

It totally depends upon the kind of place you are at. In the intensely remote areas, you may not find networks or interrupted networks but in most of the areas, networks are available.
